The Gospel of John was “written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” (John 20:31) One of the ways that John chose to reveal Jesus’ identity to his readers is through the seven “I am” statements that Jesus makes throughout the book. Each of these statements reveals something about who Jesus is. The purpose of this sermon series is to magnify the greatness of God in Jesus by seeing Him for who He says He is, so that we and our hearers “may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”

Question 1
Consider what you have learned about shepherds and sheep these last two weeks. Was there anything surprising, or was there anything that deepened your understanding of who Jesus said he was?

Question 2
Have you ever considered the “less final” implications of laying down your life for others, and how that is related to taking up your cross? What new insight or connection came to mind about that?

Question 3
Are there areas in your own life where you may have to lay it down? Pray about these and ask God to show you how to do that.

Additional Scriptures to explore: Consider these passages in light of Jesus being the Good Shepherd. What other lessons might we learn? Psalm 23; Ezekiel 34:11-31; Isaiah 40; 1 Peter 2:23-25.
