The Gate of the Sheep
Bible Text: John 10:7 | Speaker: Glen Boardman | Series: I Am | The Gospel of John was “written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” (John 20:31) One of the ways that John chose to reveal Jesus’ identity to his readers is through the seven “I am” statements that Jesus makes throughout the book. Each of these statements reveals something about who Jesus is. The purpose of this sermon series is to magnify the greatness of God in Jesus by seeing Him for who He says He is, so that we and our hearers “may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”

We encourage you to spend some time with God this week and go a bit deeper on this topic. Please consider these study questions for further reflection:
Question 1
Read John 10:3-4 – Sheep follow their shepherd because they know his voice. Jesus is the shepherd, and we are his sheep. Have you ever heard his voice speaking to you? Did he have to shout, or was it a small still voice? What was (is) he saying to you?
Question 2
John 10:27 says “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” Sometimes, we miss hearing his voice because we fill our lives with too much noise. What can you do to slow down and quiet yourself to hear his voice? Is there something you should do or maybe stop doing?
Question 3
In John 10:7 and 10:9, Jesus says “I am THE gate”. He is the only way in and out. In this I Am statement, Jesus is once again saying that he alone is the Messiah and the only way to salvation. He is exclusive. Read Acts 4:12, John 14:6, John 3:36, 1 Timothy 2:5, Romans 10:9. How do these verses show Jesus’s exclusivity? The good news is that Jesus is inclusive as well. His desire is that all enter through The Gate. Read 1 Timothy 2:4, John 3:16, 2 Peter 3:9. What do these verses say about his inclusivity?
