Introduction to John
Bible Text: John 1:1-14, 20:31 | Speaker: Glen Boardman | Series: I Am | The Gospel of John was “written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” (John 20:31) One of the ways that John chose to reveal Jesus’ identity to his readers is through the seven “I am” statements that Jesus makes throughout the book. Each of these statements reveals something about who Jesus is. The purpose of this sermon series is to magnify the greatness of God in Jesus by seeing Him for who He says He is, so that we and our hearers “may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”

We encourage you to spend some time with God this week and go a bit deeper on this topic. Please consider these study questions for further reflection:
Question 1
“Who is Jesus?” is one of the most important questions you can consider in life. Are there any misconceptions about Jesus that you have had in the past? What were they? Who do you consider Jesus to be now?
Question 2
In reading John 1, what are you learning or re-learning about who Jesus is? What stands out most to you?
Question 3
The Gospel of John is “written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name.” Why is it significant that we believe Jesus to be “the Messiah” and “the Son of God,” rather than something else? What are some elements of the new life that comes from believing in Jesus?
