We encourage you to spend some time with God this week and go a bit deeper on this topic. Please consider these study questions for further reflection:

Question 1
We fall out of step with Jesus when we begin to embrace partnerships with the people and the ways of this world that compete for God’s place in our lives. What other partnerships have you embraced with the people and the goals of this world that might be considered idolatry?
Question 2
An idol can be a physical object, a property, a person, an activity, a role, an institution, a hope, an image, an idea, a pleasure, a hero, anything in your mind and heart that takes your attention, devotion, and love away from God? Prayerfully ask God to reveal to you something or someone that is in competition with your desire to follow Jesus. Share this with a Christian friend and ask them to pray for you as you seek to realign your heart and mind with Jesus.
Question 3
Consider what motivates people who are not following Jesus. What gets them going in the morning? What are they chasing after? How much of what they love and live for and believe have you begun to embrace for yourself? What impact is it having on your living the abundant life Jesus promised us? Consider confessing this to the Lord and asking Him to forgive you. Then turn back in the direction of following Jesus in your life as you refocus your mind and heart.
