Speaker:
Passage: James 3:1-12
Service Type:

When we deal with trials, contentions, and lack of faith, we can still have joy in the midst of our circumstances.  Faith, or lack thereof, can determine the direction of one’s life and how we see the world around us. As we walk through the book of James, we find a how-to manual for the Christian life. Join us as we journey through the book a James and find out how to have a faith that works.

Study Guide Questions

1.When have someone's words crushed you? When have someone's words built you up?

2. Our speech is the fruit of whatever has taken root in our hearts. (Matt. 12:34 "Out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.") Which of the following "root" heart issues do you most identify in yourself: pride, love of comfort, need for validation/approval, anger? How do you see that root producing bad fruit through your speech?

3. Proverbs 15:4 "Gentle words are a tree of life; a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit." How will you (specifically) speak life this week?

4. Although much of the lesson was about the tongue, the deeper problem isn't your tongue - the deeper problem is your heart. Matthew 24:24 says "The mouth speaks what the heart is full of". In what ways does the mouth speak (good or bad) what is in your heart?
