Service Type:

When we deal with trials, contentions, and lack of faith, we can still have joy in the midst of our circumstances.  Faith, or lack thereof, can determine the direction of one’s life and how we see the world around us. As we walk through the book of James, we find a how-to manual for the Christian life. Join us as we journey through the book a James and find out how to have a faith that works.

Study Guide Questions

James 1:12 says that God blesses those who persevere/endure temptations. How have you seen God's blessings when you patiently endured temptations in your life? How did you feel or how did the situation prove to be a positive experience?

In James 1:13-16, we see that the temptation to go against God’s word and ways comes from our unredeemed and unholy desires. It comes when we are drawn away by our carnal desires and enticed like a fish that sees only the worm but not the hook, leading to death. What might be some ways to preempt the temptations that you typically face in your life?

Pastor Willie gave four practical ways to persevere through times of temptation. Which one is most urgent for you to practice today? 1. Remember that God’s goodness stands in contrast to the temptations we face. (James 1:17-18) 2. Stand firm against unrighteous anger. (James 1:19-20) 3. Stand firm against the lusts of the flesh. (James 1:21) 4. Obey the Word of God revealed to you. (James 1:22-25)
