Passage: Acts 2:43-45
Service Type:

Bible Text: Acts 2:43-45 | Speaker: Willie Batson | Series: Church Defined | The Bible is clear concerning the mission of the Church. It is not complex – it is actually quite simple. The Great Commandment calls us to love God and others; the Great Commission calls us to share God’s story with all people. But how do we implement them both? Acts 2 creates an intentional journey for every church to follow. Join us as we examine the structure the earliest believers adopted in our new preaching series “Church: Defined”.

Study Guide Questions:

Every follower of Jesus is called to ministry because ministry is what we do for God. Read 1 Corinthians 10:31, Colossians 3:17, 23-24. Each of these exhortations from the New Testament uses the phrase “whatever you do.” What are some examples from your life that are or can become ministry done for the glory of God?

“Why am I here?” is not the only question this week’s sermon addressed. We were also challenged to ask, “Where can I serve?” Willie pointed out we are not where we are by accident or without purpose. There were three primary contexts for ministry mentioned: the world, the church, the family. Take a piece of paper and make three columns representing each of these ministry contexts. List 2-3 ways in which you do ministry or can do ministry in each of these areas. Thank God for these opportunities and ask Him to expand your influence for building up His kingdom. Consider setting up an appointment with a church staff member to discuss where you can serve in the church.

We are not to be satisfied with sitting on the sidelines in serving Jesus. As a born-again follower of Jesus, we are still here to serve where God calls us and in the way in which He has equipped us with spiritual passions/gifts/abilities to use in His ministry. Has God given you a passion for a need or people group in your sphere of influence? Take some time to consider how this passion can be meshed with your personal style and spiritual gift mix. Consider contacting a mature Christian friend or one of our church leaders to help you flesh out this ministry passion in your life.
