Passage: Romans 7:7-8:1

Often, people who have been in church awhile use language that is unfamiliar to non-believers and new believers alike. Sometimes, even the Christians who use those words don’t understand their full meaning or importance. In this series, we will try to better understand words used in the Christian faith and their application for believers in our new teaching series called Churchy Words.

We encourage you to spend some time with God this week and go a bit deeper on this topic. Please consider these study questions for further reflection:

Question 1
In Romans 7:14-15 Paul talks about not doing what he wants to do, but doing what he hates because of his sin flesh. How many of us feel this way where it feels like we are battling against ourselves?
Question 2
Paul goes on to talk about God's perfect law and the law of sin at work in our lives. It all points to what wretched people we are. He asks the question - who will rescue me from myself. What an interesting question. Are we trying to rescue ourselves from our sin, or are we relying on God's perfect work?
Question 3
The Good News (which is the Gospel message) is summed up in Romans 8:1-2 where we see that we are FREE from judgement through Jesus. We have been set free from the law of sin and death. What GOOD NEWS!!! Are you living a life that reflects freedom in Jesus? How does that look different from life as a slave to sin?
